MARVEL UK
THE MIGHTY WORLD OF BRITISH BRONZE AGE MARVEL

ADRIAN WYMANN (2009)

Selected material from Marvel's new Silver Age world of superheroes was reprinted in Great Britain by several publishers in the standard black & white UK comic book format soon after its original appearance in the US, but it wasn't until the formation of its own publishing channel, Marvel UK, that the House of Ideas systematically targeted the British comic book reader. Although clearly set up with the intention of reprinting original US material for the British market, it did produce some original material by British creators at a later stage.

The following three part essay charts the developments and analyses the characteristics of Marvel's UK imprint from its start-up in 1972 up to the end of the decade.

PART ONE
1972 - 1974 : SETTING UP MARVEL UK

PART TWO
1975 - 1977 : EXPANSION, MERGERS - AND CAPTAIN BRITAIN !

PART THREE
1978 - 1979 : GOING TRULY BRITISH
